Plain Jungle of Petén

Plain Jungle of Petén

Your estate agglomerates jungles, vast savannas, wetlands, rivers and intricate sculptures of inclement weather. However, it is the representation of a tropical forged under the powerful influence of the Caribbean. The fascinating character of its organic composition shows a mysterious Caribbean influence.

The department is part of a single structural mass of the Yucatan Peninsula. It consists of a base of very old rocks, whose ages can be traced back 370 million years. Above them were located in at least two great periods of deposition, large volumes of lime salts, mainly calcium carbonates and sulfates.

Both territories are a vast platform, which was born when on the east coast of North America rose the mountains called Acadiana. This platform, as has been interpreted, was part of the “tiny” tectonic plate known as East Maya. Its setting, slow evolution, ancestral form the socket that is the oldest basement.

Petén-Yucatán the territory has originated in the powerful Acadian uplift of the seafloor then was colossally sunk to its conversion into the seabed. A tremendous push from below, and returns to dry land. Another collapse, and once again the deep sea, from which would emerge for the third time. Meanwhile, the microplate tectonics also faced the task of moving on the surface, looking for accommodation in a slow, inexorable process, one of whose time is what we see now, like a photograph that freezes the geological time. Cultural Heritage of Petén

Petén is undoubtedly one of the most important pre-Columbian occupation. There are many archaeological sites, some of great documentary value that warranted the declaration of world heritage.

A walk to the nearby Tayasal soon send you to the imagery of prehistoric occupation. Current Peteneros itza’es and mestizos still have in their oral tradition the story of these warrior groups. The legend is probably the most told of the passage of Cortez, which is derived from the legend of the stone horse, which lie somewhere in the bottom of the lake, probably in the place known as Punta San Andrés Nitun way, in the margins of the lake.

The other group of Mayan descent, with a distinctive culture of the lowlands, is the Mopan located in the municipality of San Luis, while in southern Belize, the rest of the population was eventually decimated in the violent process of conquest. Today, however, tourists can see large groups of Mayan people, these are mostly migrants Q’eqchi Verapaz.

This group has brought Maya in this mobilization culture and traditions as traditional expressions of Alta Verapaz, as Pabankí, deer dances, rituals and culinary Q’eqchi ‘, are found in Petén, particularly in southern the department.

Petenera mestizo population today is small, since the department has become a major attraction for the farmers of the country so many of the “Ladino” seated in the department are defined as “southerners”, and bring a culture mainly from the east of the country, from which they originated. Petén

The department that inspired the Guatemalan writer, Virgilio Rodríguez Macal, to write the book The Serpent Bird House, turns it on this tour of our country.

The natural beauty is, without doubt, an important letter of introduction from the vast Peten region. This ecological heritage unparalleled in Central America is second only to the archaeological wealth that characterizes the Petén and has become one of the most interesting for world tourism.

In addition to its archaeological sites, we find here an extensive and varied wildlife, which is presented in all its beauty to those who dare to penetrate its dense forests.

The historical value of Petén occupation means that Mayan culture it was centuries ago, one which left a lasting imprint on the history and current life in Guatemala.

Millennial between history and tradition

Without doubt, Tikal is the most important prehistoric sites listed in Peten, but the list is longer than we can imagine: Yaxhá, Nakún, Nakba, Aguateka, Petexbatún, Piedras Negras and Ceibal, are considered first-order; so we left without including a plethora of places.

The department’s occupancy time practice was continued until the arrival of the Spanish, but not meant that the conquest was early. And is that Hernan Cortes passed through the region in 1502, on their way to Honduras, but after this, there were several attempts to “input” and “conversion” of the Spanish, but all failed.

It was not until 1697, when Martin Urzua and managed Arismendi itza’es the first reduction, specifically in “Noh Peten” in place of the present day island of Flores. Two years later he has consolidated the conquest of the center of the department, was achieved on the Mopan, apparently parallel to this process, that a number of other ethnic groups, residents, referred to by the chroniclers, was involved in a violent process of extinction. Kazakhstan Strengthens OSCE Efforts for Afghanistan

Based on a report given by Kanat Saudabayev at the London Conference on Afghanistan in January 2010, the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, Foreign Minister and Kazakhstan Secretary of State, the nation would take on an active role in advancing OSCE programs to intensify the landlocked nation’s borders, improve law enforcement activities, as well as build support.

Since 2003, Afghanistan has been an OSCE Partner for Cooperation. However, it was only in 2007 that the foreign ministers of the 56 OSCE States came to an accord in strengthening the organization’s endeavors with the country.

The involvement of OSCE (the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe) with Afghanistan was a main concern of Kazakhstan’s 2010 Chairmanship, according to Saudabayev. Three OSCE contributing Central Asian States are bordered by Afghanistan and its security conditions are connected to the region’s security, as well as to the security within the OSCE location.

Saudabayev further stressed the necessity to engage in such efforts and discover similar methods in dealing with the country’s current status.

Kazakhstan, as the chair of the organization, is focused on promoting the safety and stability of Afghanistan by means of practical political discourse, encouraging trade and investment in its economy, while also offering support for humanitarian and cultural cooperation as it proffers assistance in a variety of fields.
