The lake, Cable Car and Sweets Amatitlán

After about 30 minutes drive from the capital city, the arrival in town of Amatitlán occurs under the threat of heavy rain. But no matter, is not sufficient reason to truncate the desire to relive childhood times with a pleasant ride on the new gondola, rowing in the waters of the lake, and get lost in the sale of sweets in the streets.
The cable car: Reopened in 2006 and unique in Central America, the cable car Amatitlán has 27 cabins that come and go, of which 22 are named for the departments of Guatemala. All leave from the central station known as “The Nymphs” on the shores of the lake, up to the counter (United Nations) at the top of a mountain, which as I indicated, is 350 meters high.

After canceling 15.00 Q rate, it’s my turn to address the means of transport which boasts the name of the department of Izabal.
Behind is leaving the station and for several minutes, the gondola runs over land about 25 meters high, and then rise a bit more about the water until the presence of a mountain, forced to do a sudden rise to circumvent them .
The middle part of the journey, are converted into the best spot to observe a large proportion of the lake which is shown as the main attraction of the landscape. A landscape from the vantage point located at the other counter, adds a spectacular view of the entire town and the imposing beauty of the water and Pacaya volcano.
After nearly two hours of staying up, forced mainly by rain, the weather is pleasant and conducive to undertake the return. Read the rest of this entry »
