Chichicastenango is a small town about 2000 meters high in the Guatemalan highlands. It is 2 or 3 hours from Guatemala City (145km) is a region where there are many fruits and vegetables of excellent quality, some for local consumption to export other. In Chichicastenango, Thursday and Sunday takes place the traditional market, considered the largest of its kind in Central America.

This market attracts not only locals but also Quiche sellers and buyers from other areas and ethnic groups: Kackchiqueles, K’ekchi, Mam and others who offer their products, creating a great mix of colors, dialects and customs.

Since pre-Hispanic times Chichicastenango is playing an important role in the region. Even today, a day before the show, vendors are beginning to assemble their booths in the main square and surrounding streets, to offer customers almost everyone their various textiles embroidered by hand or in looms: blouses , placemats, bags, pants, belts, beautiful belts, pottery and a variety of masks, some used in ancient traditional dances. You can choose from a wide variety of quality items, and may even negotiate prices!
